In the end the pattern was stalled
nothing to defend nobody appalled
the trajectory was something to see
as it ran off the rails
and the likelihood of good outcomes would
decrease by the day as orbits decay
in a series of fails

In the alternate timeline the answers came too late
and the sequence failed as dissent prevailed
indecision wiped the slate

Don't say you didn't see the signs
at least in the outlines of all the days
that were misspent
And the trials not faced
and the trust misplaced
combined to deplete, divide and defeat
every party we sent

and we went this way but we couldn't say
if the fields were out of tune

and now the feelings setting in
I think we can begin to admit the faults
in our prevailing course
